Black Keys back together with "Brothers" (Reuters) – NIMBRUNG.NET

Hot Breaking News about Black Keys back together with Brothers Reuters
NEW YORK (Billboard) –
Pat Carney and Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys have been working together for so long they might as well be brothers. And just like siblings, once in a while they need time apart.

After five albums together, each more commercially popular than the last, Auerbach and Carney both pursued musical endeavors outside the blues-rock sound that made the Akron, Ohio, band famous. It’s only after this brief hiatus that the two were able to create a back-to-basics album, the aptly titled “Brothers,” due May 18 on Nonesuch. Drummer Carney sheds light on the album’s creative process.

Billboard: In between the making of “Brothers” and your last record, 2008′s “Attack & Release,” Dan Auerbach released his solo album and you formed Drummer. Did you learn anything by working independently that you brought to the making of “Brothers”?

Pat Carney: The most important thing we learned was how easily we communicate with each other. I think it’s much easier for Dan and I to play with each other than it is for us to work with other people, but we really just started to appreciate it recently. I think it’s because we learned to play together when we were kids.

Billboard: You first worked with Tchad Blake on your rap-rock experiment “Blakroc” (released in November) and brought him back to mix “Brothers.” What do you like about his style?

Grodin writes NY judge for ex-senator’s sentencing (AP) – NIMBRUNG.NET

Hot Breaking News about Grodin writes NY judge for ex senators sentencing AP
ALBANY, N.Y. – Actor Charles Grodin has sent a letter to the federal judge who will sentence a former New York Senate leader on two corruption charges, pointing out the politician’s role in getting clemency in the mid-1990s for four female inmates.
Grodin says he remains grateful to Joseph Bruno for raising the issue with Gov. George Pataki, who granted clemency. Grodin says one inmate was a welfare mother caught in a police drug sting.
Grodin — also an author, political commentator and former cable talk show host — says he’s not sufficiently informed about the charges against Bruno but wanted the judge to know about his efforts to help the women.
Prosecutors have asked Judge Gary Sharpe to sentence Bruno on Thursday to more than 8 years in prison. His attorney proposes probation, restitution and a fine.

OJ Simpson acquittal suit arrives at Newseum in DC (AP) – NIMBRUNG.NET

Hot Breaking News about OJ Simpson acquittal suit arrives at Newseum in DC AP
LOS ANGELES – The suit O.J. Simpson wore on the day he was acquitted of murder has been delivered to the Newseum in Washington, D.C., where it will be part of a display focusing on the trial that was viewed by millions.
Susan Bennett, vice president and deputy director of the museum of news, said the Armani was transported Thursday by Simpson’s former manager, Mike Gilbert, who had it in storage for nearly 15 years. Gilbert flew to Washington from California carrying the tan suit, white shirt and gold tie in a garment bag.
Bennett said the clothing has been placed in the artifact preparation area and Newseum officials hope to have it ready for display by October, which will mark the 15th anniversary of Simpson’s acquittal in the 1994 slayings of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman.
Simpson was acquitted Oct. 3, 1995, after a televised trial that riveted the nation.
“We are very careful with all of our acquisitions,” Bennett said. “It is being evaluated and we will have professional mount makers prepare the display.”
Bennett said the suit will be in a collection that includes press passes, newspapers and the mute button that Superior Court Judge Lance Ito used when he wanted to shut off the live microphone in court so lawyers could talk privately during the trial. The exhibit will focus on media coverage of the so-called trial of the century.
The acquisition ends a 13-year legal battle between Gilbert and Fred Goldman, the father of Ronald Goldman. Both men claimed the right to the clothing.
Fred Goldman has been trying to collect virtually anything from Simpson to satisfy a $33.5 million judgment from the trial of a lawsuit that found Simpson civilly liable for the deaths. At one point he wanted to sell the suit, but Gilbert claimed it was his property.
Gilbert came up with the idea of a donation to a museum.
The suit was first offered to the Smithsonian Institution, but the museum said it was not appropriate for its collection. The Museum of Crime and Punishment in Washington also had been trying to acquire the suit, but the parties decided the appropriate venue was the Newseum, Gilbert said.

Ariz. gov signs bill revising new immigration law (AP) – NIMBRUNG.NET

Hot Breaking News about Ariz gov signs bill revising new immigration law AP

PHOENIX – Gov. Jan Brewer on Friday signed a follow-on bill approved by Arizona legislators that make revisions to the state’s sweeping law against illegal immigration — changes she says should quell concerns that the measure will lead to racial profiling.

The law requires local and state law enforcement to question people about their immigration status if there’s reason to suspect they’re in the country illegally, and makes it a state crime to be in the United States illegally.

The follow-on bill signed by Brewer makes a number of changes that she said should lay to rest concerns of opponents.

“These new statements make it crystal clear and undeniable that racial profiling is illegal, and will not be tolerated in Arizona,” she said in a statement.

The changes include one strengthening restrictions against using race or ethnicity as the basis for questioning by police and inserts those same restrictions in other parts of the law.
