‘American Idol’ lowers age eligibility (AP) – NIMBRUNG.NET
Fox said in a statement Monday that the age eligibility to audition for the upcoming 10th season of the singing competition would be lowered from 16 to 15 years old. The maximum age to audition remains 28.
“American Idol” executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz said in a statement that “a lot of young, talented people are now seeking careers and representation before they turn 16.”
Auditions for the next season will begin July 17 in Nashville, Tenn. Other audition cities include Milwaukee, New Orleans, San Francisco, East Rutherford, N.J., and Austin, Texas.

Slipknot bassist died of morphine overdose (AP) – NIMBRUNG.NET
Paul Gray, 38, was found dead in a suburban Des Moines hotel room on May 25. A hotel worker told a 911 dispatcher that a hypodermic needle was found near Gray’s body and that pills also were found in the room.
The autopsy shows he died of an overdose, Urbandale police said in a news release. They also said the autopsy revealed signs of significant heart disease.
No evidence has been found showing Gray had a prescription for the drugs, police spokesman Sgt. Dave Disney said. Police are trying to find out how Gray got them.
“There is no evidence that a doctor prescribed either one of those substances,” Disney said.
Disney said charges are possible but that it is too early to discuss specifically what those charges could be.
A person answering the phone at Slipknot’s record company, New York-based Roadrunner Records, declined to comment and said that there would be no official comment from the company or band until one is posted on the band’s website. No such statement was posted on Slipknot’s website as of late Monday afternoon.
Phone listings for his wife, Brenna Gray, and Corey Taylor, a founding member of the band, were not immediately found.
Gray was a co-founder of the Des Moines-based band known for its grotesque masks, thrashing sounds and aggressive, dark lyrics.
Slipknot emerged in the mid-1990s and its 1999 debut album sold about 2 million copies. The band won a Grammy in 2006 for best metal performance for the song “Before I Forget.”

Dallas police chief’s son suspected of killing cop (AP) – NIMBRUNG.NET
LANCASTER, Texas – Investigators said Monday they believe the 27-year-old son of Dallas Police Chief David Brown shot and killed a man at a suburban apartment complex and then opened fire on responding officers, killing one, before being shot to death.
Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez said investigators were still sorting out details, but it appeared David Brown Jr. shot Jeremy McMillan, 23, on Sunday evening and opened fire on Officer Craig Shaw and others when they responded.
Shaw, 37, was killed, the first officer to die in the line of duty in Lancaster, a city of 35,000 about 15 miles south of Dallas.
Brown died after other officers returned fire.
“This is a difficult time for all of us in law enforcement,” Valdez said.

China state-owned banks buying dollars heavily: traders (Reuters) – NIMBRUNG.NET
SHANGHAI (Reuters) –
Chinese state-owned banks are aggressively buying dollars for the yuan on Tuesday, traders said, but it was not clear if the buying was due to Chinese central bank intervention to keep the yuan stable.
Several traders said Chinese state-owned banks were buying dollars at various levels, suggesting they were not trying to defend the yuan at a certain level.
However, Tuesday’s aggressive buying of dollars could cut the supply of the U.S. currency in the spot market in coming days, which may in turn influence the yuan’s value.

Congo plane crash, 10 bodies found (AFP) – NIMBRUNG.NET
YAOUNDE (AFP) –
Rescuers have found the wreckage of a crashed plane carrying an Australian mining tycoon and other executives, with ten bodies found so far, Cameroonian and Congolese officials said.
The plane carrying 11 people including tycoon Ken Talbot and the entire board of the Sundance Resources mining company went missing over the jungle Saturday on a flight from Yaounde, Cameroon’s capital, to Yangadou in Congo-Brazzaville.
“Ten bodies have been taken out of the wreckage. The search is continuing for the last,” Alphonse Pepa of the Congolese Transport and Civil Aviation ministry told AFP.
“The decision on where the bodies will be taken will be made tomorrow (Tuesday),” he said.
Australia’s Foreign Minister Stephen Smith has warned that retrieving the bodies could be “regrettably painstaking” after a chartered twin turboprop went down in Congo’s thick jungle at the weekend. The deaths of so many key people from Sundance Resources has left the mining company in crisis.
