NEW YORK – Culinary confession time for Whoopi Goldberg: Potato chips are her undoing.
At the New York City Wine and Food Festival on Friday, Goldberg said she “can’t resist them. It’s terrible. And fried chicken, but that’s so ethnic I’m afraid to say it out loud.” And, she added, she won’t “eat watermelon in public, just on principle.”
Goldberg is hosting the festival’s annual Burger Bash competition but admits that it’s an odd job for a woman who doesn’t cook. That is, with one exception: Every year she tries to recreate her late mother’s Thanksgiving turkey.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – A record 14 tons of marijuana, valued at over $22.6 million, was seized in the California desert at a checkpoint roughly 60 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border, federal officials said on Friday.
Agents found the marijuana in 1,100 bundles concealed inside a tractor-trailer, marking the largest checkpoint cannabis seizure ever for the border patrol's El Centro sector in Southern California, the agency said.
The bust on Wednesday also ranked as one of the biggest U.S. checkpoint seizures outside a border crossing nationwide, border patrol spokesman Jonathan Creiglow said.

MEXICO CITY – The Roman Catholic Church reacted harshly Friday to a bill proposed by Mexico City legislators that would require all couples to sign a prenuptial agreement specifying how to handle child custody and other issues in case of divorce — and estimating how long the marriage is expected to last.
Sponsors of the bill submitted this week in the city council say the proposal aims to cut down on the lengthy, nasty divorce proceedings choking the capital district’s courts, by making potential couples decide about monetary and custody issues by mutual agreement before they get married.
But the bill also says “the duration of the marriage will be bound by the terms that the couple negotiate in the familial agreement, which shall not be less than two years.”

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The arrest of more than three dozen people on drug charges at a Boeing military aircraft plant highlights the growing problem of prescription drug abuse by U.S. workers, experts said on Friday.
Federal authorities on Thursday charged 37 people, all but one of them current or former Boeing employees, with selling or trying to buy painkillers and anti-anxiety drugs at the company's suburban Philadelphia plant.
The federal drug raid on the plant that makes key U.S. military aircraft followed four years of stealth operations as agents infiltrated the factory and found workers to cooperate in undercover deals, authorities said.
