A Russian court on Monday awarded two Russian families $ 100,000 each in compensation from a maternity home that accidentally switched their daughters, now 12, at birth. The story has captivated Russia ever since the families learned about the mistake several months ago.
Confirmation of the switch — long suspected by one of the fathers — has been bittersweet.

NEW YORK – Jessica Simpson has confirmed the obvious — she’s having a baby.
The 31-year-old entertainer Tweeted a photo of herself Monday dressed as a mummy for Halloween, holding her baby bump with the words, “It’s true. I am going to be a mummy.”
It will be the first child for Simpson and her fiance Eric Johnson. The two announced their engagement last year.

(Reuters) – Three Albuquerque schools were under lockdown or were restricting student movements on Monday afternoon "due to a SWAT situation in the area," the Albuquerque Public Schools website said.
Garfield Middle School was on lockdown and Valley High School and Griegos Elementary School were under "shelter-in-place," which is similar to a lockdown except that students can move around inside their classrooms and can take supervised restroom breaks, the website said.
School officials were asking that parents of the middle and high school students avoid the area but said parents of elementary school students could pick their children up if they sign them out at the office.

CAIRO (Reuters) – Thousands of Egyptians protested Monday in Tahrir Square, the epicenter of an uprising that toppled President Hosni Mubarak this year, after a prominent activist was detained by military prosecutors.
The military detained Alaa Abd El Fattah Sunday, a high-profile blogger whose arrest by Mubarak's security forces in 2006 led to a big campaign to release him.
Abd El Fattah refused to be questioned by military prosecutors over "inciting violence and sabotage" in connection with deadly clashes between the army and protesters on October9, when more than 25 people were killed.
