Hot Breaking News about Greek referendum threatens new euro zone crisis (Reuters)

ATHENS (Reuters) – Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou has threatened the euro zone with a new crisis with his shock announcement that he will hold a referendum on the last-minute bailout deal struck only last week to try to contain the bloc's debt mountain.

Euro zone leaders agreed to hand Athens a second, 130-billion-euro bailout and a 50-percent write-down on its enormous debt to make it sustainable.

Papandreou, whose ruling Socialist party has suffered several defections as it pushes waves of austerity measures through parliament while protesters rally outside, said he needed wider political backing for the fiscal measures and structural reforms demanded by international lenders.

Hot Breaking News about Spielbergs Tintin lands closing night at AFI festival Reuters

Hot Breaking News about Spielberg’s “Tintin” lands closing night at AFI festival (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) – Monday afternoon's announcement that Steven Spielberg's "The Adventures of Tintin" will be the closing-night film at the AFI Fest would be more newsworthy if the film won't already have been playing around the world for two weeks by the time it debuts in Hollywood on November 10.

Still, the news gives the AFI Fest a heavyweight closer, and marks the North American debut of an animated (via the motion-capture technique) film whose overseas reaction has been marked by big grosses and divided critics.

"Steven Spielberg is a national treasure," said Bob Gazzale, AFI President and CEO in a press release announcing the premiere. "He has written this nation's cultural legacy over four decades, he inspires artists and audiences alike and he honors us all by premiering 'The Adventures of Tintin" at AFI Fest, where we celebrate the very best the world has to offer for 2011."

Hot Breaking News about Pregnant mom says sandwich arrest was ‘horrifying’ (AP)

HONOLULU – Nicole Leszczynski couldn’t imagine that two chicken salad sandwiches would land her and her husband in jail and her 2-year-old daughter in state custody. But it happened five days ago, when the 30-weeks-pregnant woman forgot to pay for her snack while grocery shopping.

“It was the most ridiculous chain of events that happened,” she said while sobbing Monday. “It’s still hard to believe what happened.”

Leszczynski, 28, and her husband Marcin, 33, were handcuffed, searched then released on $ 50 bail each. Their ordeal at the police station lasted a few hours, but their daughter Zofia spent the night away from her parents in a case that has sparked nationwide outrage and forced the Safeway supermarket chain to review the incident.

Hot Breaking News about Arrest made in U.S. flight attendant murder in Mexico (Reuters)

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – Mexican officials said on Monday they arrested a male prostitute for the murder of a U.S. Airways flight attendant strangled to death in his hotel room during a layover stop in Mexico City.

Nick Aaronson, 27, was found bound and face down next to his hotel bed in Mexico City after he picked up the 20-year-old Jose Luis Ramirez at a nearby bar, Mexico City prosecutors said. Ramirez, known as "The Shadow," beat Aaronson, strangling him with a belt before fleeing with his money, they said.

Security cameras showed the two entering the hotel, with Aaronson signing Ramirez in as a guest.
