SCORE! Final score on the Yankees vs Red Sox Opening Day Game was 7-9. The Opening Day Red Sox game drew 12 hits from each teams, with the Yankees out to an early lead in 2nd.

But late in the sixth and seventh inning, the Red Sox delivered 3 runs each. Runs were brought in by Teixeira, A Rod, Cano, Posada, Granderson, Swisher and Gardner.

For the Red Sox, scoring came from Pedroia (2), Martinez, Youkilis (3), rew, Cameron, and Scutaro.

Boston was down as much as 5-1 against CC Sabathia but in the end beat the 2009 World Series champions at Fenway.

During the early hours of Monday morning on April 5, NASA sent the Space Shuttle Discovery hurtling into space on one of its last voyages. After the 6:21am shuttle launch at Florida’s Kennedy Space Center, only three more voyages remain for NASA’s space shuttles before the program is closed and a new mode of transport for leaving the Earth’s atmosphere is introduced. Commercial interests will likely take over in the space flight arena, which leaves the door open for all sorts of crazy contraptions to carry human beings into outer space.

The history of science fiction — and film in general — is rich with unusual travel ideas. We looked back and picked out a few designs that entrepreneurs should consider when planning their pitches for the future of the American space program.

“Explorers”
A dream about a circuit board and crap in your backyard. That’s what young Ethan Hawke, River Phoenix and Bobby Fite work with in building their little makeshift spacecraft. It’s not terribly ideal for those looking to mass-produce; it actually takes two dream sequences before the boys get their circuit board design right. Then again, three adolescents managed to build a space-ready flying machine out of garbage cans and junkyard items. Just imagine what a commercial interest with millions of dollars — and a dream — could do.

“Kaena: The Prophecy”
French CG-animated sci-fi/fantasy “Kaena: The Prophecy” isn’t the best movie. RottenTomatoes gives it a “Fresh” rating of 7%. It does, however, boast an age-old sci-fi idea that’s rarely been realized in film: the space elevator. Imagine a vertical structure built so high that it breaches the stratosphere and crosses over into outer space. In “Kaena,” it’s a giant tree. In reality, such a thing would probably be a huge, high-tech elevator, perhaps connecting directly to the International Space Station or some other orbital installation.

“The Astronaut Farmer”
Here’s another one of those “crap in your backyard” constructions. The adult version of “Explorers,” if you will. The only difference is, our shuttle builder (Billy Bob Thornton) in this case chooses to model his design after NASA’s Mercury-Atlas rocket. So it’s less pieced together than the one the kids build in “Explorers,” but it’s also less functional. Just goes to show you– it really does make a difference to DREAM big.

MAPS! Earthquakes continue to shake San Diego and Los Angeles today after the 2010 6.9 (7.2) earthquake shook San Diego Sunday.

San Diego and Los Angeles residents have experienced as of 5 am PST today nearly three dozen notable aftershock earthquakes ranging from 3.0 to 4.0. On Sunday, Cal Tech informed press that it is typical one aftershock in the 4.0 to 5.0 range could strike the region in the next couple days. That has already happened as of today.
